Iconic Chairs in Modern Classic Designs

Designed in 1950, it is also commonly known as the Wishbone Chair (owing to its wishbone-shaped backrest), or more industrially as the CH24 Chair. An agile and strong piece, the rounded back rails of the Wishbone Chair allow the human form to change and shift position. This classic design was the last part of a Wegner series inspired by Chinese Ming Dynasty chairs. The iconic Y-shaped back offers comfortable support while providing stability to the steam-bent top.

The Wishbone Chair was designed by none other than Danish designer Hans Wegner. Wegner’s most classic chair is a rare combination of natural design and practicality, with fluid lines and minimalist style. The graceful Y-back, smooth frame and intricate woven seat represent the prominent features of the Organic Functionalism movement of the time. While most replicas take shortcuts on the features that make the original what it is, the Assonhom reproduction is faithfully recreated in honor of Wegner and his principles for great design. The curved hind legs and the semi-circular top rail together with the elegant Y-back endows the chair with a gracious and welcoming air. Our products are reproduced to the style of the original design.

Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman have their origin in Charles and Ray’s investigations into molding plywood and a desire to improve upon a familiar fixture in many living rooms: the lounge chair。 Almost immediately, the design became an icon of American design. Today, these pieces not only live in museums, but continue to offer comfort and style to interiors everywhere. A universally recognized form, the set is available in a variety of veneers, multiple leather options, and two sizes. Whatever selection you make, you can be assured of the quality and authenticity of this design.

It is one of the most famous mid-century modern pieces. Its form and functionality have made it one of the most sought after pieces in modern history. This iconic design can be found in popular films, television shows, businesses and in thousands of residences across the globe. Its original designers, Charles and ray Eames, had intended to give it the look and feel of a well worn first Baseball mitt. It led to the creation of the Assonhom's Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, featuring your choice of multiple leather finishes, high density cushions and imported veneers.

Ox Chair

The Ox Chair is one of Hans J. Wegner’s more humorous designs. While designing the piece in 1960 he said: “We must be careful not to take things too seriously. We must play but we must be serious about playing! “ Hans J. Wegner designed over 500 chairs and the Ox Chair remained one of his favourites. He had one in his living room and enjoyed it for the rest of his life.

With the chair's tight design expression, Wegner has created the ultimate lounge chair with a sculptural heft that makes it a bit of a cliffhanger. Since its birth in 1960, Ox Chair has been an obvious iconic item on the list of furniture must-haves. Choose leather for an everlasting exclusive look or a warm and welcoming retro textile. An immortal classic that is always capable of adjusting.

While the horns allow the head and neck to be supported in a wide range of different seating positions, the chromium-plated steel frame is designed so that the chair has a naturally reclining position. Combined with the padded cushioning and the shape of the seat, these elements ensure that the Ox Chair is somewhere that allows you to sit in comfort in a wide range of different positions.

Incredibly sculptural in its design, the Ox Chair is available in a wide range of different fabrics and leathers, and a choice of different colours. It was Wegner’s belief that every chair (and he designed over 500 of them) should be aesthetically brilliant from all angles; it shouldn’t have a back that should be hidden away from view. The Ox Chair achieves this aim, and also reflects Wegner’s passion for combining modern and innovative designs with classic techniques and materials.

As strong and distinctive as a bull, the Ox chair from 1960 is padded, covered with oxhide or fabric and raised off the floor by light but strong legs in chromium-plated steel. Among the jobs it does, and one that lies close to Wegner's heart, is to make it possible to sit comfortably in many different ways so that one can change position continously. Only then can one sit really comfortably.

Womb Chair and Noguchi Table

This is a chair designed by Eero Saarinen, a Finnish designer. He was invited by Florence Knoll (a furniture designer widely known by people, and also the chief designer of furniture company Knoll ) to design a furniture which challenged the concept of conventional furniture.
So the aim of this chair is to break existing design, to create a new stage for furniture. It was not easy at that time.

But in 1960s, Eero Saarinen brought a chair named Womb Chair to this world. Looked totally different from conventional chairs, it was made of moulded fiberglass shell covered with wool fabric, adding additional seat and back cushions and the separate, coordinated ottoman. All of them are supported by slender steel rod base which is chrome-plated in a polished mirror finish. Its special wool upholstered design, manage to achieve in different colors.

Its body slant so that user falls back into the seat, with armrests beside, like a baby be wreathed in womb. Accord with the request from Knoll “sometimes i can curl myself in.” Gentle from the soft wool; Security from the rough fiberglass, deserved for its name “Womb Chair”.

A true reproduction of the original by Isamu Noguchi, the famous Japanese American sculptor who was born in Los Angeles. It was originally created in 1944. The brilliantly simple design consists of only three elements, the glass top and two interlocking wood base pieces. The classic furniture is an extraordinary harmony of form and function.

Noguchi's coffee table consists of three pieces. A freeform, 3/4" plate-glass top resting on two curved, solid wood legs that interlock to form a tripod for self-stabilizing support. The solid wood base of the table has a lacquered finish and available in Noguchi black, walnut and natural color.

"To limit yourself to a particular style may make you an expert of that particular viewpoint or school, but I do not wish to belong to any school," he said. "I am always learning, always discovering."
This is is a beautiful and contemporary piece that would complement any interior!
Make this affordable contemporary nogochi table a part of your modern home or office today!.

Eames Lounge Chair and Tulip Table

The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman have their origin in Charles and Ray’s investigations into molding plywood and a desire to improve upon a familiar fixture in many living rooms: the lounge chair. Citing the English club chair as inspiration, Charles said he sought to design a modern version of that chair, one that had “the warm receptive look of a well-used first baseman's mitt.” Almost immediately, the design became an icon of American design. Today, these pieces not only live in museums, but continue to offer comfort and style to interiors everywhere. A universally recognized form, the set is available in a variety of veneers, multiple leather options, and two sizes. Whatever selection you make, you can be assured of the quality and authenticity of this design.

The Eames Lounge Chair replica is one of the most famous mid-century modern pieces. It led to the creation of the Assonhom's Eames Lounge Chair replica furniture, featuring your choice of multiple leather finishes, high density cushions and imported veneers.

Perhaps because of its illustrious first recipient, the Eames Lounger and Ottoman was the first chair the Eames designed for a high-end market. Like most of the work they created for the famed Herman Miller Furniture Company, it began with plywood – in this case, three curved plywood shells created from several thin layers of wood veneer. But unlike previous Eames creations, the Lounger and matching Ottoman were upholstered in thick, comfortable leather. The Lounge Chair stands out among their work for its unabashed luxury and meticulous handcrafting.

The Saarinen Tulip Dining Table is a natural in modern settings. Its beautiful form brings together both elegance and convenience, as it fits into even the tiniest of nooks effortlessly.

The Eero Saarinen Style Tulip Table is a high quality reproduction in the style of the original design.

With the mid point of the last century came huge advances in material technology and manufacturing processes, new plastics, resins and fibreglass could be mass produced quickly, efficiently and with consistent results. These developments provided exciting opportunity in many areas; not least of all for furniture design and prompted a new era of industrial design.
In 1956 Eero Saarinen designed a complimentary range of tables and chairs which he named the Tulip range because of the slender, elegant stem like pedestals and organic shapes that typified the pieces. As with his namesake Eero Aarnios' designs the experimental use of materials and minimalist forms are often considered to be space age and their appeal has outlived the period in history from which they originated.

Maintenance for Furniture (Final Part)

WOOD AND SURFACES

GENERALLY ABOUT WOOD AND SURFACES

Wood requires care and maintenance to retain its uniqueness and character. Especially untreated wood is sensitive and should be periodically cleaned and processed. Furniture in solid wood is not recommended in direct sunlight, near heat sources or in rooms where the climate swings. This may result in stresses in the glued connections and in furniture plates which again can result in cracks.

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING OF DIFFERENT SURFACES

Untreated wood:
Wash with water and soap. For stains that does not come off with soap water use a scrub/brush. Always scrub in the wood's longitudinal direction. Rinse off all soap and dry well. Do not hang sheets or put objects on the table until the surface is completely dry.
Lacquered and painted wood surfaces:
These have a strong, smooth and usually water repellent finish with normal use and cleaning. Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Solvents should not be used.
Waxed wooden surfaces:
Hard wax can almost be compared to coated surfaces, while the soft waxes in quality is comparable with oiled surfaces. The surface is easy to clean but not particularly resistant. Clean carefully with small damp cloth and should be treated according to the descriptions producer and supplier provide guidelines on.

Oiled wooden furniture:
Has a slightly fatter surface that is more susceptible to dirt and liquids than other treated surfaces. So you need to wash and treat these often. Clean with caution and should be treated with a furniture oil the manufacturer or furniture shop recommends. Do not hang sheets or put objects on the table until the surface is completely dry.

POWDER-COATED FINISH (STEEL, MDF, ETC.)

The surface can be somewhat different, depending on how the customer wants it. Powder coated surfaces can be categorized as strong against wear. The cleaning is carried out with a damp cloth. Stain removal is done with a common cleaning detergent and in certain cases white spirit.

Steel surfaces:
As a general rule, use a soft cloth for daily cleaning. To protect surface and simplify cleaning, apply a thin layer of wax added silicone.

Plastic surfaces:
Plastics have different properties depending on which applications they should cover. Cleaning is best done with a cloth soaked in lukewarm water with small amounts of detergent. For stain removal, use a stronger dose of detergent (see also the supplier/manufacturer's instructions).

Furniture with mounting brackets:
Indoor climate varies with the seasons. The driest is in late winter when we heat and the most humid in autumn. Wood is hygroscopic - absorbs and releases moisture depending on the climate, and shrinks and swells in response to changes in climate. This can make the furniture that is assembled with mounting brackets somewhat wobbly in dry periods. Therefore go over the mounting brackets and tighten them if necessary.

A Sculpture Chair - Panton Chair

Known for his use of creative forms and bold color, Verner Panton designed the Panton Chair in 1960. One of the earliest models is now in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Nowadays the Panton Chair is regarded as a classic of modern designer furniture design. The original version of the chair is in rigid polyurethane foam with a glossy lacquer finish is marketed under the name Panton Chair Classic.

“I want to design furniture that grows up out of the floor,” said Verner Panton. “To turn the furniture into something organic. Which never has four legs.” Pushing materials to their limits was a passion of this Danish architect and designer, who always approached design challenges in unconventional ways. His cantilevered stacking chair (1960) was the first single-material and single-form chair to be made, and it’s been continually improved and updated by Vitra through three decades of development in plastics technology. As striking as a modern sculpture, the Panton Chair is crafted into a single piece of strong, flexible polypropylene that’s wonderfully durable and easy to clean. Suitable for residential and commercial use.

The Panton Chair is the first chair to be created from just one piece of material, using a single mold.
Characterized by its graceful curves, Assonhom's replica furniture collection of Panton Chair has a emphatically sculptural quality that can be used on its own as an occasional chair, or grouped with other modern classic pieces to create a cohesive, striking look. The chair’s overhung design creates a stunning contour, and its ability to stack with other chairs makes the Panton Chair easy to store when not in use.

Classic Dining Table and Versatile Dining Chairs

“The underside of typical chairs and tables makes a confusing, unrestfull world,” states Finnish-born Eero Saarinen. “i want to clear up the slum of legs.”
One single base of furniture style not only makes him a winner of the 1969 Museum of Modern Art Award, but also becomes a ground-breaking masterpiece lasting 50 years. For now it is still a elegant design in furniture. It includes a dining , coffee and side table as well as chair.

An exceptionally durable marble surface, is sustained by only one pedestal which also round smooth polished. It breaks the conditional rules of the 4 legs furniture, representing a modern figure. What is more, This tulip table imparts an air of elegance to the room it displays. No wonder it is on the rise around the modern family today.

As with his namesake Eero Aarnios' designs the experimental use of materials and minimalist forms are often considered to be space age and their appeal has outlived the period in history from which they originated.

Maintenance for Furniture (Part III)

GENERALLY ABOUT FURNITURE LEATHER

Contractor's advice on the use, care and maintenance of leather furniture should always be followed, because it is the individual dealer, furniture manufacturer and supplier of the skin that can vouch for what each product can withstand and requires.

LEATHER - A NATURAL PRODUCT

Furniture leather is made from the hides of cattle. As is natural, there may be scars, insect bites, color variations, etc. How much of these natural markings that shows on the furniture skin depends on various factors, a.o. what treatment the surface of the skin gets. Furniture leather will often change appearance after prolonged use. This kind of patina the leather furniture buyer should learn to appreciate.

THE DIFFERENT QULITIES/TYPES OF FURNITURE LEATHER

Leather that is used for furniture today is usually of cattle - cow, bull or buffalo. Most are from cow because access to such skin is relatively stable, and the size and characteristics make cowhide suitable. There are many steps in the process from the slaughter of animals until the leather is on the furniture. For tanneries that supply furniture leather, it is important to know what your customer (furniture manufacturer) want of such quality and finish. Prices vary widely, depending on the quality class or sort and wanted features.

1. Aniline leather - aniline dyed skin gets sorted out early in the process and these leathers have hardly been processed by tanning. Narva is original, and insect bites and marks of wounds will appear on this type of skin. Sometimes aniline leather gets a thin color pigment or finish layer over the basic color. These skins are very soft and comfortable, they have kept breathing ability and is considered to be the "best" quality. Aniline leather is just a small part of the total production in a tannery and the price is very high. Color selection is usually not set by furniture manufacturers, they have to choose from the selection the tannery offers.

2.Semi-aniline leather is slightly more processed than aniline dyed skin, and is a cross between aniline leather and corrected skin. A bit more color has been used and furniture manufacturers can increasingly determine the colors.

3. Corrected leathers are the most affordable and most processed. Here, furniture manufacturers order exactly the color tint they want, from completely black to white. Due to the surface treatment, such hides do not have the same breathability as aniline leather.

PRECAUTIONS FOR FURNITURE LEATHER:

1. Especially armrests and neck pillows are exposed to grease and sweat resulting in dark spots, and over time break down furniture leather.
2. Chemicals from eg. hair gel and hand creams can cause similar damage.
3. All dust and dirt from clothing, for example, will damage furniture if not removed.
4. Pets do absolutely not belong in/on the furniture!
5. Sunlight will cause fading and drying out the skin upholstery. Influence from other heat sources will lead to the risk of dehydration and color changes on eg. light skin (avoid placing a laptop with hot battery directly on furniture leather).
6. The use of covers, blankets and sofa cushions, is a good help to prevent injuries.

GENERALLY ABOUT MAINTENANCE OF FURNITURE LEATHER

It is important to follow the vendor's advice on the use, care and maintenance of leather furniture, and it is important to know the quality of the current furniture skin. Care instructions attached to the furniture should always be followed - most furniture manufacturers submit their own product information with each piece of furniture.

STAIN REMOVAL AND CLEANSING OF FURNITURE LEATHER:

1. Water soluble stains should be washed off immediately with a clean, white, soft cloth or sponge wrung out in lukewarm water (boiled water).
2. Regular cleaning and dust removal should be done frequently by vacuuming with a soft brush and dusting with a clean, white, damp cloth.
3. Do not use chemicals on the leather. When in need for stain removal, treatment and more, contact the furniture store that can provide guidance in your situation.
4. Leather furniture thrive best if they are protected from sunlight, drying out and heat.

Wing Chair and Panton Chair

"A chair should have no backside. It should be beautiful from all sides and angles." Hans Wegner
Wegner’s CH445 Wing Chair (1960) was put into production in 2006, first appearing at the IMM Cologne furniture fair, where it won a classic innovation award for its everlasting appeal.

Like other of his famous designs, glyptic lines allow it to stand on its own in a variety of settings. In the middle of Wegner's easy chairs, the Wing chair is remarkable for the harmony and serenity of its design. Its most representative features are the shoulder groove and chair back's distinctive corner angle. The wings provide perfect support for your back and afford freedom of movement and multiple sitting postures. Built around a solid wood frame with metal legs in polished stainless steel the chair is available in a wide range of fabrics and leathers.

It is an exceptionally comfortable upholstered easy chair that can be used as a centerpiece in a room or in groups.

The Panton Chair is the very first ever to be constructed from one continuous piece of material. Since its market launch, the Panton Chair has undergone several production phases. Not until today was it possible to produce it in line with Panton's original idea, namely from consistently dyed, tough plastic with a matt surface and an affordable price. The Panton Chair has won various design awards world-wide and graces the collections of numerous renowned museums. Its expressive shape makes it a true 20th-century design icon. The chair offers great seating comfort thanks to the cantilever base, together with its shape and flexible materials. It can be used on its own or in groups.

Its designer, Verner Panton, had the idea in 1960, on a visit to a factory making safety helmets and buckets, according to the Design Museum. But it would be several years before he could find a manufacturer who was able to mass produce it. Made from a single piece of cantilevered plastic with no back legs, it was the first of its kind. Assonhom's Panton Chair replica furniture has a emphatically sculptural quality that can be used on its own as an occasional chair, or grouped with other modern classic pieces to create a cohesive, striking look.

Affordable Classic Pieces from Assonhom

Available in five wood finishes - maple, beech, ash, oak and walnut - the seat also comes in natural, black or white cord. A particular modern finish is created with the painted versions, of which thirteen colours are available. A truly timeless and adaptable piece, suitable for any home or office space.

Noguchi himself described Coffee Table as his best furniture design, no doubt because it is extremely reminiscent of his bronze and marble sculptures of the time, translating the latter's biomorphic formal language unadulterated into a piece of sculptural furniture: glass tabletop resting on two identical wooden elements placed at right angles.

This table is both a work of art and a piece of fine furniture. It is a high quality reproduction of a classic design first produced in 1944. This exceptional reproduction is made from the highest quality materials and workmanship to provide you with countless years of enjoyment. Noguchi Table will uphold a variety of objects in a professional reception area or the home.

Maintenance for Furniture (Part II)

GENERALLY ABOUT FURNITURE TEXTILES

Dirt and dust that remains in the fabric helps to break down the fabric fibers and contributes greatly to shorten the life of the fabric. Regular (weekly) vacuuming with a soft brush inhibits degradation and is essential for the textile to achieve longevity. Important maintenance factors are: 1) main cleaning, 2) stain removal, 3) control of color fastness and precautions for upholstery fabrics.

MAINTENANCE FACTORS

1. Main cleaning:
Begin to clean the fabric as soon as you see that regular vacuuming and dusting is no longer enough. For the main cleaning foaming cleanser is recommended. Contact the furniture retailer for guidance. How frequently this should be done depends on the furniture usage, but the parts of the furniture that comes in contact with the skin should be cleaned at least once every three months.

2. Stain removal:
When an accident happens, it is important to remove the spill / stain as quickly as possible. A new spot can be easier to remove than old. If you get a stain that you are unsure of how to remove, you should contact the furniture retailer. For removal of stains you should avoid common household cleaners because many of them are too harsh for the fabric, and ALL other products containing solvents or oil, as they can damage fabrics.

3. Control of color fastness:
By main cleaning and stain removal, you should always check that the fabric dyes can withstand the detergent you use. Test the dergent first on an invisible spot. Leave to dry and check the result.

Natural fiber - fabrics made of natural fibers such as cotton, linen, wool, or the artificial rayon are very comfortable because they breathe and absorb perspiration. These textiles are hydrophilic - draws and absorbs water and anything that contains water. The fabrics are also oleophilic - absorbing oil and grease, eg. fatty acids from sweat.

Synthetic fibers - fabrics made of synthetic fibers such as polyester, polyamide, acrylic, has outstanding mechanical resistance. These fabrics are hydrophobic - repels water and other liquids. Stains from spilled liquids and water-based products are not absorbed by the fibers, and these spots are thus easier to remove. The fibers are however oleophilic - attracts oil and grease..

Mixing fibers - fabrics made of mixed fibers - different combinations of natural, artificial and synthetic fibers, are highly resistant to stains and superb comfort.

4. Precautions for upholstery fabrics:
The main considerations you should take for your furniture: Cleaning, lightfastness, avoid injuries, furniture fabric's lifetime and pets.

Lightfastness - A lot of furniture is destroyed unnecessarily by the interaction of sunlight. Remember that all exposure to light will weaken both the fibers and dyes in textiles. Although the furniture textiles are tested and approved for lightfastness, is should be located so that direct sunlight and sharp reflexes are avoided. Shades or blinds are recommended, but be also aware that not all fabrics in blinds or curtains stop harmful UV rays. It is important to remember that the sun shines into the room even when we are not present! Especially the "low" sun at our latitude goes far into the room - all day. If you are going away for a longer while, the furniture should be covered specifically. Ask your furniture retailer how to best protect your furniture so they do not degrade unnecessarily  by sunlight.
How to avoid damage to furniture fabrics - Clothing with extremely rough seams or sharp details like rivets, or belts with metal fittings, increases wear and can pull out threads. Denim - particularly new, and clothing with excess dye, can cause discoloration. Objects or tools in pockets can damage the upholstery fabric.

Fabric lifetime - Lack of care and maintenance reduces fabric life. If the furniture is used extremely much every day, it is recommended with covers and protective sleeves (this can be ordered for most furniture).

Pets - Pets and upholstered furniture do not mix. Hair, nails and scraping tugs hard on the fabric. Four-legged family members should be in their basket, not in the furniture.

Versatile Chairs and Coffee Table

Designed in 1950, it is also commonly known as the Wishbone Chair (owing to its wishbone-shaped backrest), or more industrially as the CH24 Chair. A particular modern finish is created with the painted versions, of which thirteen colours are available. A truly timeless and adaptable piece, suitable for any home or office space. The back offers good support and most people feel comfortable in it for a longer period of time. The curved top rail makes it easy to move around and though the arm rests are long enough to give adequate support to your forearms, the chair can still be pushed in close to a table. Its design is easily recognizable and makes a great addition to your home. While its look seems simple, a closer look reveals an elegantly curved back and legs.
