Womb Chair and Noguchi Table

This is a chair designed by Eero Saarinen, a Finnish designer. He was invited by Florence Knoll (a furniture designer widely known by people, and also the chief designer of furniture company Knoll ) to design a furniture which challenged the concept of conventional furniture. 
So the aim of this chair is to break existing design, to create a new stage for furniture. It was not easy at that time.

But in 1960s, Eero Saarinen brought a chair named Womb Chair to this world. Looked totally different from conventional chairs, it was made of moulded fiberglass shell covered with wool fabric, adding additional seat and back cushions and the separate, coordinated ottoman. All of them are supported by slender steel rod base which is chrome-plated in a polished mirror finish. Its special wool upholstered design, manage to achieve in different colors. 

Its body slant so that user falls back into the seat, with armrests beside, like a baby be wreathed in womb. Accord with the request from Knoll “sometimes i can curl myself in.” Gentle from the soft wool; Security from the rough fiberglass, deserved for its name “Womb Chair”.

A true reproduction of the original by Isamu Noguchi, the famous Japanese American sculptor who was born in Los Angeles. It was originally created in 1944. The brilliantly simple design consists of only three elements, the glass top and two interlocking wood base pieces. The classic furniture is an extraordinary harmony of form and function.

Noguchi's coffee table consists of three pieces. A freeform, 3/4" plate-glass top resting on two curved, solid wood legs that interlock to form a tripod for self-stabilizing support. The solid wood base of the table has a lacquered finish and available in Noguchi black, walnut and natural color.

"To limit yourself to a particular style may make you an expert of that particular viewpoint or school, but I do not wish to belong to any school," he said. "I am always learning, always discovering."
